Obesity Surgery

Since 1997 obesity has been classed by the WHO (World Health Organization) as a chronic illness.  It is one of the major non-infectious epidemics of the 21st century.

Obesity is due to an accumulation of excessive fat and is harmful to physical and psychological health.Obesity has a negative impact on the quality of life and carries serious social consequences.

Obesity in the world : according to the WHO, over 1.9 million adults are overweight and more than  600 million adults are obese (2014 figures). Nearly 42 million children under the age of 5 are overweight or obese. 

Obesity in France (source OBEPI-ROCHE 2012):
15% of the adult population are obese which equates to over 6.9 million people.
32.3% of the adult population or roughly 14.8 million people, are overweight.
