A health risk

Illnesses and diseases associated with obesity are known as comorbidity.

The risk of developing an associated illness, or comorbidity , increases with an individual’s abnormal increase in weight.

Some examples of comorbidity :

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Diabetes
  • Dyslipidemia
  • Arthrosis
  • Herniated discs
  • Breathing problems
  • Sleep apnea
  • Increased risk of cancer
  • Hormonal disorders
  • Depression

Directly or indirectly, these illnesses expose the obese individual to health risks and complications that can reduce life expectancy.
